Artist biography Vicky Palmer is a British known Contemporary portrait artist, she works in various materials like oil, & acrylic. She has a great passion for animals particularly hunting hound dogs which she is especially known for She started her art career training in the south west of England. She also worked as a graphic designer for some years. When she had her 2 children she moved to the southern shire of Wiltshire as she loved the countryside especially with all of the different animals around. Being around a honeypot area encouraged her to make a full time career as an artist. Palmer has a dog and on her daily walks she carefully observes the wildlife and farm animals as she goes along. She has an amazing talent to catch & express the character of the animals that she paints. She is based in the Wiltshire Countryside and as such, cows and hounds form a large part of her portfolio. With just the touch of her brush she lets the animals character flow out.
She takes pictures whilst she is out and about of her subject matter and then when she is home works from them in her studio, her style is to also to move the animals from typical surroundings & reposition them onto a plain white backdrop creating a more contemporary finish, Palmer has also won an award the trilogy award from the society of Women artists along with exhibiting around London & in Wiltshire along with the country life & animal art fairs. She has also sold her works to known people like the garden TV personality Mr Titchmarsh & Lady McAlpine. Her paintings have been exhibited and sold at galleries & auction houses around the world.
The Berkeley Hunt is a foxhound pack in the west of England. Its country lies in the southern part of Gloucestershire, between Gloucester and Bristol. The Berkeley Hunt's establishment is said to have been, in its (18th century) day, one of the largest and most important the world has ever known.[3] Hounds have been kept at Berkeley Castle since the 12th century, at first to hunt the stag and the buck, and since the 18th century, to hunt the fox. The Berkeley family of Berkeley Castle (which lost its titles of Baron Berkeley and Earl of Berkeley in 1882 and 1942 respectively) still owns the Berkeley hounds and the kennels. The "hill country" above Dursley and Wotton-under-Edge is hunted mainly in March and early April, and adjoins the Duke of Beaufort's estate. The "vale country" comprises the Vale of Berkeley, largely dairy and stock farms with much permanent pasture, although the use of this land for growing crops is increasing. Although "hunting wild mammals with a dog" was made unlawful in England and Wales by the Hunting Act 2004, which came into effect in 2005, a number of exemptions stated in Schedule 1 of the 2004 Act permit some previously unusual forms of hunting wild mammals with dogs to continue, such as "hunting... for the purpose of enabling a bird of prey to hunt the wild mammal".
The Berkeley stresses that its present-day hunting is within the exemptions permitted by law and the death of any fox is absolutely accidental and coincidental to its legal activities and definitely not the purpose of said activities. Anti-hunting activists claim the hunt has been witnessed to trespass on farmland which they are aware they are not permitted to be on. They go on to say this shows that the hounds are not following a pre-laid trail and foxes are being deliberately hunted and killed
