This little Dachshund Dog sculpture is an original handmade work of art. Like so many of the Midcentury Modern/ Danish sculptures, figurines and furniture, it is sculpted from Mahogany hardwood. The eyes are inlaid solid brass. It has been sanded to a very fine finish then sealed with non-VOC Danish oil and wax.
I've had several request from Midcentury Modern loving Doxie owners to create a small Dachshund sculpture similar to my Milwerk birds. As usual, I began by drawing the shape on to the piece of wood I intended to sculpt. Most of the time I draw and re-draw until I get a shape I'm satisfied with to start sculpting. But this time the shape came together on the first try! The sculpting on the other hand became a lengthy task. The more wood I removed the more detail I wanted to add. Finally it came together. Happy with the shape and final sanding, I put it aside. I had so much time in this little pup, there was no way I could sell it! That was 2022. It has been sitting in my stash of unfinished works just begging and whining to go to a new home. I'd love to make more Dachshund dog sculptures but I know I will never be able to match this one.
