This rare vintage ceramic plate from the early 1960s, signed by Harrison McIntosh, embodies the renowned artistry of one of California’s most esteemed studio potters. Recognized for his mastery of form and balance, McIntosh crafted this 10" plate featuring a pierced olive branch leaf and stem design, seamlessly blending modernist elegance with natural motifs. His refined glazing technique, displayed in rich earth tones, highlights his signature minimalist approach. A true collector's piece, this plate not only exemplifies mid-century modern aesthetics but also represents McIntosh's enduring influence on the California pottery movement.
The plate bears an early script signature by Harrison McIntosh. Given the rare olive branch motif pierced into the clay, it is believed to have been made for a 1961 group exhibition at the Olive House of C.C. Graber Co. The Graber's Olives Olive House, based in Ontario, California, is home to the oldest continuously operating olive packing business in the United States.
