- The wood is in surprisingly good solid shape for being 333 years old but areas of the leather are in … moreThe wood is in surprisingly good solid shape for being 333 years old but areas of the leather are in poor condition or missing. Most of the leather is missing from the back but that highlights the large decorative iron straps. The lock is broken but it looks like that was done in the 1700's judging from the patina on the break. The hand forged hinges and massive iron handles all work fine with no rust and heavy patina. This chest is large and has a great presence about it. It should be in a museum but in the right place this one of a kind chest would make a great conversation piece. It measures 44" long x 22" deep x 24" tall. It needs to be somewhere it is appreciated and preserved. less

Three initials and the date are cut out of the fancy metal work under the lock.(see the photos) The wood is in surprisingly good solid shape for being 333 years old but areas of the leather are in poor condition or missing.
