A very fine and vividly colored French wool tapestry dating to the second half of the 19th century, featuring an elegant floral composition combined with strapwork, drapery and and other decorative elements. The rose coral background coloring was popular in the late 18th century, notably in the work of the Gobelins tapestry works of Paris, and it saw a revival through the second half of the 19th century, for both wall and upholstery tapestries. A great accent piece for any wall or the end of a hallway, there is a pocket sewn into the top edge for a rod to run through- any slim curtain rod will work for hanging. Very good antique condition, with typical artisanal irregularities to the weave, a few minor spots of oxidation, light wear to the very bottom edge. Later antique linen backing (not visible) has some discoloration.
