Pierre Ambrogiani, born in Ajaccio, Corsica, was a French Expressionist painter known for Mediterranean landscapes, figures, and still lifes. He often used thickly painted bright oranges and reds as is the case with the feauted item. Born in 1907 in Ajaccio, Corsica, Ambrogiani grew up in Marseille where he taught himself to paint. During his career, he associated with Maurice Utrillo, Othon Friesz and Marc Chagall. He spent much of his life travelling the French countryside by car, stopping to paint en plein air. In 1962, the artist was commissioned to create frescoes and stained glass windows for the Church of Immaculate Conception in Marseille. Ambrogiani's works are included in the collections of the Musée des beaux-arts de Marseille and the Musée d’art et d’histoire de Meudon.
Ambrogiani created more than 1500 paintings and 1200 drawings during his lifetime. His works are exhibited and collected worldwide. This piece includes a hand typed receipt which is hand signed by artist and dated 1961.
