These were used by tobacco farmers to sort leaves by size during harvest time once they had sufficiently dried. The sizer would be placed flat on a table and the leaves would be grouped in the cubby corresponding to their size.

No longer in use on farms today, there are many ways to use a tobacco sorter. Great as a spice rack (Martha Stewart used one), storage for small supplies or counter display rack for a business. Also nice to add to a console/sideboard arrangement for extra height and visual interest. It has a slim "waterfall" design with clean-cut, geometric lines and the simplicity and warmth of an old primitive piece. May be easily integrated into any interior design style. It is lightweight and you may want to secure it to a wall for best stability but may not be necessary. This is a hard-to-come-by item that is useful and fun to work with. Open distance between shelves is 4.25". It is in good vintage/antique condition.
