America's Cup Sailboat Race
Michael Keane Limited Edition Lithograph “On the Run: Endeavor vs Shamrock" signed and numbered 219/550
"In September 1989 the “Return of the Legends” Regatta took place in Newport, Rhode Island, featuring a match racing series between the famous J Class yachts Endeavour and Shamrock V. The event marked the first J Class racing since their involvement in the America’s Cup ending 1937, following extensive restorations of both yachts led by American classic yacht enthusiast Elizabeth Meyer.
The regatta was a three-race event held in Newport’s Narragansett Bay, attracting more than 3,000 spectator vessels and over 10,000 onlookers onshore. The yachts were helmed and navigated by notable America’s Cup sailors, including Peter Isler, Ted Turner, Bill Koch and Gary Jobson.
Peter Isler explains “Turner asked me to be his tactician and help pick our crew. We had a pool of 30+ sailors to crew both boats so we picked in turn like a ‘sand lot baseball game’. Jobson and I alternated picks until everyone was on a boat. I picked Bill Koch near the end and assigned him to be a grinder as I didn’t know who he was.... little did I know he would soon be mounting a winning America’s Cup campaign!”.
Shamrock V has remained in commission nearly a century since her original launch. Now under new ownership, she has undergone the most extensive rebuild since Lipton first created her."

"Michael Keane’s (2048-2015) superb paintings are not only known for their elegance in design and unsurpassed rich colors, but also for their technical accuracy. Some of the scenes are imbued with a luminous serenity that seems to transcend time and space; others portray the excitement, majesty and grandeur of yachting history, and put us in touch with the eternal relationship of humanity to the sea. Because of the timeless beauty of his work, his paintings are some of the most sought-after marine art in the world today. Many collectors remember his annual sold-out one-man shows in Nantucket, throughout the 1990’s- 2014."
