These dogs’ russet markings were painted with fine feather strokes, and their muzzles have exceptional detail. The lockets are the warm gold ==color indicative of early Staffordshire pottery.
Well molded, their coats and ears have significant contouring.
Staffordshire spaniels were the quintessential English mantel decoration - "comforter dogs" – a form of British folk art inspired by Queen Victoria's beloved dog, Dash.
This particular pair was made by a factory known for making this classic spaniel in six sizes and imprinting the size number – in this case “4” on the base of each spaniel.
