Reticulated pedestal fruit bowl by Rockingham Brameld approximately 1821-1826. Designed this way for air to circulate and keep your fruit fresh…Attributed to Edwin Steele, one of the foremost ceramic designers of the time. He was the creator of the Rhinoceros Vase a masterpiece in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum.It features floral clusters at four places on the rim, beading between, bordered in hand applied gilding and painted with pink and blue flower and foliage sprays over the interior, exterior and foot.
Evocative of the early sprigware, but later we think, and painted with more artistry.
Piece is unmarked. Rockingham Brameld began marking their work in 1826 so this piece pre-dates that.
Measures 13 by 11: and stands 7.5 tall.
Nice gilt leaves on the underside of the bowl.
It is in very good condition, with little sign of wear or use....
Sometimes we find a TRUE Treasure....this is one of those times! less
