Late 17th Century Louis XIV Italian walnut secretary cabinet, termed a Scrittorio con Scarabattolo, with thick burled walnut drawer fronts and striking carved fruitwood inlay. Fine Renaissance shellac finish in beautiful condition.
An Italian masterpiece of solid walnut structure and sculpted details; this version of a secretary incorporated within a chest of drawers has a hinged top & upper front panel which open to reveal a desktop writing space with 6 inlay framed drawers. Ornate forged iron hinges. Functional locks & keys. Northern Italy, Veneto region. Circa 1680.
