Elegant set of 4 model s83 chairs designed by eugenio gerli and manufactured by tecno, italy 1962. Made from black painted plywood these chairs have a robust metal structure for strength, together with detailed aluminum caps around the legs. The organic form of the plywood and slim tapered legs show an innovative design. Tecno tags are fixed to the sides of the seats, and the chairs are stackable for convenience and functionality. Kindly note that the listed price is for the set of 4 chairs. The table on the pictures is not included but can be purchased here. This series of disassemblable chairs has a die-cast aluminium frame supporting the black seat and providing anchorage for the front legs and rear uprights made of walnut or rosewood. The s81 and s82 have a seat and back upholstered in foam rubber covered with fabric or leather. The s82 has a high back. A version was also designed with three legs and a round seat and back, but it was never put into production. The s83 has a similar structure with the seat and back made of moulded plywood, walnut, rosewood veneered or lacquered plywood. It also has the added feature of being stackable. The wooden legs have a polished black finish. Eugenio gerli is an italian architect and industrial designer known for his long collaboration with italian architect-designer osvaldo borsani and italian manufacturer tecno. In 1949 gerli graduated in engineering and began his career a year later by opening his own architecture and industrial design studio. Gerli began experimenting with different materials such as resin, felt, and molded plywood, leading to the creation of designs. In 1957 gerli began a long and prolific collaboration with the borsani brothers, fulgenzio and osvaldo (1911-1985) founders of the italian furniture manufacturer tecno.
