Minimalist 'Cintree' desk designed by Jules Wabbes and manufactured by Le Mobilier Universel in Belgium in 1960. This striking desk is in a very good condition and has been produced with Wabbes' trademark constructred frame in chrome plated solid steel. The base seems fragile but sinc its made of solid steel its heavy and sturdy. The plywood top is finished with a Mahogany veneer and has only some surface craquelé in the top, see last pictures for that. This instantly recognizable piece would look great in multiple interior settings and styles and would definitely be a great addition to one's collection. Marked with production sticker and date on the bottom. Jules Wabbes (1919 – 1974) was a professor, architect and furniture designer. When Wabbes was 24, he opened an antiques shop where some of the furniture was in need of restoration. Therefore, he opened a small workshop where he taught himself how to restore furniture. Alongside restoration he also started to design furniture. So from a totally different point of view he designed his furniture. That is probably the main reason why the pieces he designd are so different from similar designs of that period. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution less
