A true Artifort classic, the F551 "Big Tulip" designed by Pierre Paulin for Artifort in the Netherlands in 1959. This Tulip armchair for Artifor was only produced for a short period which makes it a collectors item. And as if designer Pierre Paulin anticipated the Flower Power era. Its design gives off a vibe of a half-opened flower, with graceful and inviting leaves spreading under the seat. Paired with its matching footstool, these armchairs create an exceptionally comfortable combination perfect for lounging. The Tulip chairs feature an oval headrest and a sturdy solid steel cross base. The chairs have been reupholstered in a vibrant ochre yellow velvet Priced and sold in a set of 3. Pierre Paulin is one of the greatest representatives of French design. He is known for his modern spirit and the alliance he has created between rigor and organic. He drew his inspiration and influences from studying Scandinavian furniture, Japanese styles and the work of the Eames couple.
