Description: Brass Samovar which is complete with the teapot (often missing). It was bought in in the Middle East in the … more Brass Samovar which is complete with the teapot (often missing). It was bought in in the Middle East in the 1980's and is in excellent condition for it's age. The samovar as we know it was first made in the late 18th century, and the center of production was the town of Tula (in Russia), which was where this one was made, based on it's stamp, probably in the 1830's.

A samovar is a heated metal container traditionally used to heat and boil water in and around Russia, Ukraine, Kashmir and in the Middle-East. Since the heated water is typically used to make tea, a samovar has a ring-shaped attachment around the chimney to hold and heat a teapot filled with tea concentrate. Many of these teapots have been separated from their Samovar, but this one is complete. less
