The retrospective Mid Century Modern art exhibition catalogue book is published by Harry N. Abrams Inc. Publishers, New York and The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York. Printed in Japan in 1982 in conjunction with the iconic Retrospective exhibition, with a preface by Thomas M. Messer and text by Diane Waldman.
Mark Rothko ( 1903 - 1970 ) is an American Modernist painter of Russian Jewish descent. Although Rothko himself refused to adhere to any art movement, he is generally defined as an Abstract Expressionist. His bold use of color fields make the artworks impressively iconic and highly individual. Rothko is considered to be one of the most important and influential American painters of The 20th Century. Artworks by Rothko are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
The rare out of print 1st edition 3rd printing Abstract Expressionist exhibition art book measures 8 1/2" W X 11" H X 1" D, with 296 pages. It features 198 lithograph print illustrations, including 96 full color plates, and 70 black & white illustrations.
