A celestial female spirit or Apsara from Sri Lanka is represented here as a small solid brass vintage bell sculpture. She is depicted in her classical dancing pose; on her toes with her arms and legs caught in graceful motion. Dimensions: W 2" X D 1.5" X H 6". The piece is in perfect vintage condition. The Apsara is a female spirit of clouds and waters in Hindu and Buddhist mythology “a celestial nymph” or “celestial maiden”. The Apsaras are beautiful supernatural feminine beings. They are young and elegant and superb in the art of dancing. They are often the wives of the Gandharvas, the court musicians of Indra. They dance to music made by the Gandharvas, usually in the palaces of the gods, entertaining and sometimes seducing gods and men. As guardians of fallen heroes, they can be compared to the Valkyries of Norse mythology. See less
