The solid wood dining chairs have classic birdcage style backs. Specifically, each chair back has a row of 5 short spindles atop a row of 7 longer spindles. The chairs are further supported with a brace back design, which refers to the 2 additional spindles stretching from the chair back to the tail of the seat, providing extra strength and stability.

The dining chairs are expertly constructed with wedged mortise and tenon joints, shaped saddle seats, and splayed legs united by stretchers arranged in a box style.

The distressed white painted finish is newer and not original. It's not the greatest paint job in the world, being somewhat shabbier than it is chic. There is paint loss, bubbling paint, general wear and tear, and what looks like bite marks on some of the spindles.

Despite the cosmetic issues, these dining chairs are 100% worth re-doing. They are heirloom quality, rock solid, extremely comfortable, and generously proportioned. Many antique windsor chairs are fairly petite, but these chairs are larger and very strong, so they can easily accommodate your larger family members and guests.
