The mirror is complete with no losses, there … more A wonderful black forest carved mirror dating from the late 19th century. The mirror is complete with no losses, there is some evidence of a repair to the top decoration but its hard to notice from the front. The pine has a lovely rich natural patina. 52cm/20.5" x 40cm/16" // Black Forrest carvings originated in the town of Brienz in the early 1800's and first appeared in the UK as souvenirs taken home by young backpackers returning from the "Grand Tour", essentially a road trip around Europe and beyond that was popular among recently graduated upper class men. The fact the they originated from the black forest in southern Germany is a common misconception. less
