This particular crest is the older version and dates back to the 13th century. What’s also unique about this piece is that there is a second relief on the back, which strikes me as a scroll of sorts. Doing a bit more research, I believe it represents the Magna Carta of 1253 that made provisions for the Scarborough Fair (cue Simon & Garfunkel)
