After winning London County Council Art Scholarship Awards, Pearl Took studied at Skipton Art School (1943-7) and, subsequently, at the Sir John Cass College (1947-9). After moving to Pasadena, California with her family in 1957, Took started an active career in painting in 1961, becoming a teacher at Pasadena City College and Glendale College. She continued her studies at California State College, Los Angeles, the Art Center of Design, the Otis Art Institute and Parsons School of Design.

Took exhibited with success throughout her teaching career in addition to working as a free lance illustrator for the Pasadena Star News.
