“Vanity Fair," published weekly from 1869 to 1914. The highlight of each week was a caricature of a well-known personage. These caricatures were reproduced by the relatively new process of chromolithography. This is an original 1870 Vanity Fair chromolithograph, not a reproduction.

Sir Robert Peel was a British Conservative statesman who twice was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (1834–1835, 1841–1846), and simultaneously was Chancellor of the Exchequer (1834–1835). He previously was Home Secretary twice (1822–1827, 1828–1830). He is regarded as the father of modern British policing.
