Extremely decorative, fully sculptural representation of an art nouveau beauty in a softly falling robe, tilted forward to throw a golden ball, with the left forearm holding the back hem of the dress on her back. The figure is supported by a tree stump decorated with formed tendrils and is based on a round, stepped base with a gold-highlighted wavy band frieze and gold rims. Rare colour of the dress. Modeller: walter schott (1861 - 1938) german sculptor and medalist; 1880-1883 he studied at the berlin art academy, worked as a freelance artist in berlin from 1885 and created numerous monuments. 'the ball player', designed in 1897, is his most famous work and is located life-size in bronze in the flower garden at the south end of königsallee in düsseldorf. The model was designed 1897.
