Robert Frame is an important and well-listed Santa Barbara, California listed painter and artist who is known for his vivid landscapes, abstract modernist still life, and colorful oils that have sold at auction for as much as $15,000.00.
Born in 1924, Robert Frame began his painting career in the mid 1940's. He attended Pasadena City College and Pomona College in Claremont, California, studying with Millard Sheets and Henry Lee McFee.
Known as a "Painters Painter", Robert Frame received early recognition and continuous acclaim for his work. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in Creative Painting and an award from the National Academy of Design in New York City, New York.
He exhibited widely, and had public exhibitions at the California State Fair, the Butler Art Institute, the National Academy of Design, The San Francisco Museum of Art, the De Young Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum, Carnegie Tech, the Laguna Beach Arts Festival, Pasadena Art Museum, Long Beach Art Museum, the Santa Barbara Museum, the Desert Art Museum in Palm Springs, California, and the DeYoung Museum.
Robert Frame had a successful career as an art teacher at Westbridge School in Pasadena, Pasadena City College, Pasadena School of Finer Arts, San Diego State College, Otis Art Institute and Santa Barbara City College.
His paintings are in the collections of many museums, including the National Academy of Design in New York, the Norton Simon Museum, Palm Springs, Art Museum, Santa Barbara Art Museum, Scripps College, and the State of California. He died in 1999.
He is represented by the David Findlay Gallery in New York. less
