Framed Original Oil Painting of a Woman Playing Guitar, Signed Hal Singer. This painting by Hal Singer (1919-2003), depicts a young woman playing guitar, beautifully rendered in the artist's renown soft focus style. Signed lower left.
Unique multi-level frame; the painting on canvas board is framed with a gold metallic frame which sets above a unique linen covered padded platform with rounded corners, the edges wrapped in the cream colored linen. The entire piece is in excellent condition, notation of very fine scratch on signature mentioned for accuracy only.
About the Artist
Born 1919 in New York City, Singer first started painting as a teen and later attended New York University and the Art Students League. In 1940 he enlisted in the military, serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Following the war Singer worked as a commercial artist and graphic arts photographer before devoting his life to painting full time in 1962.
Working primarily in oil but also known for his watercolors, Singer's subject matter included carousels, figures, landscapes, seascapes and coastal scenes painted in a style he referred to as soft focus realism. Singer said of his work that he did his best to show "the forces of natural growth, spaciousness, and quiet solitude." less
