Surin was a painter and muralist, known for painting themes pertaining to Russian and Soviet history.

He studied at Ekatirinburg Art School and graduated from the Surikov State Art Institute in Moscow.

Surin took part in the All Union art exhibitions and All Russian exhibitions.

His works can be seen at various museums in the Ural region of Russia.

This painting is an excellent example of his work. This expressionist landscape is an oil on board.
It is titled "Ural Village."

The painting is signed on the lower right, as well as the reverse.

The inscription on the reverse is written in Cyrillic and translates to "Surin N. F. 1925 Chelyabinsk, Ural Village 1968."
