Utkin graduated from the Ivanovo art College (1941-1953). He was a member of the Union of artists of the USSR with many exhibitions. Utkin was an exhibitor of regional ("Great Volga", 1974, 1985, 1989, 1991, 1998, 2003), republic (Moscow, 1984, 1986, 1987), and national "Skill and inspiration" (Moscow, 1996) art exhibitions.

His solo exhibitions included N. Novgorod, 1976, 1996; Arzamas, 1995; Paul, 1983. A veteran of the great Patriotic war of 1941-1945.g.

This painting dates to 1971. It depicts traditional homes amongst trees in a snowy landscape. According to the inscription on the reverse, the scene was painted in Nizhny Novgorod (Russia).

The painting is signed on the lower right. It is also signed the reverse. The inscription on the reverse is in Cyrillic. It reads "Utkin, M.V., N. Novgorod, 1971."

The framed painting measures 24.5 x 28.25 inches.
