This exquisite porcelain figurine, crafted by the A. W. F. Kister Porcelain Manufactory of Scheibe-Alsbach, Thuringia, Germany, in the early 20th century, is a masterful homage to classical art. It depicts the renowned marble sculpture of Apollo Belvedere, created in the 2nd century CE and currently housed in the Vatican.
Apollo, rendered in luminous white porcelain, seems to breathe life into his timeless pose. His curly hair, kissed with delicate hints of yellow, and the soft pink of the cloak wrapped elegantly around his left arm, imbue the figure with both vibrancy and serenity. Apollo is captured mid-stride, his stance imbued with the energy of a recently released arrow, while a serpent winds its way up a gnarled tree trunk beside him
The figurine is set upon a round base of solid black and white marble, which provides a striking contrast. Adjacent to the figurine is a brass Corinthian column topped with an orange swirled glass orb, adding an elegant touch. The base itself is crafted from wood, finished in an antique white and gold, enhancing the figurine’s overall grandeur.
