- An important antique German Biedermeier architectural sofa, verified by an expert in Biedermeier furniture as dating from 1840-1845. The sofa … more An important antique German Biedermeier architectural sofa, verified by an expert in Biedermeier furniture as dating from 1840-1845. The sofa is made of high-quality walnut with burned wood rolling across the top rail. The top rail has been patched over the sofa's 185-year history, a testimony to a string of caring owners. The frame is tight. The swans, crest, etc. - all of the sofa - is hand carved. Tool marks remain clearly visible. Satinwood inlay runs the length of the sofa skirt. Rich in patina and architectural detail, the piece measures 41" high to the top of the crest; 88" long, and 31" deep. It is ideal for use in a larger space where it can show off its sweeping and embracing lines. The cotton upholstery is in pristine condition. No stains, tears, or flaws of any kind. That said, this sofa would be spectacular in period damask or Napoleonic fabric. A museum piece, I think. less
