Fabulous antique Italian Baroque carved giltwood box featuring a hand painted bronze leaf design embellishing each black wood framed panel and raised on lion's feet. The box is believed to have been a Reliquary (a vessel to keep and admire religious relics) with glass panels originally, has been newly restored inside and out in a two tone bronze colored antique brocade fabric, which replaced a red brocade interior and very worn teal velvet exterior (see photos). There is a lever on the right side of the interior that keeps the lid open. A wonderful statement piece for use as a jewelry box or as a catch-all in a powder room or living room!
