Signed Drummonds at the bottom left. The rural scene sees an elderly farmer who, having stopped working in the fields, as the two draft horses attached to the plow behind him clearly indicates, reads a letter with the help of a young woman, while a small girl offers wild flowers to her mother. The incipit 'Dear father\.' can be read on the letter header; on the ground is the envelope with an England address. The family scene evokes the tenderness of the young woman towards the elderly man, probably her father-in-law, with whom she shares the joy of the news received from her distant loved one. The work is presented in a half-gold frame '900. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
