This bold and dynamic figurative abstract acrylic painting on handmade paper by Marc Foster Grant (American, b. 1947) certainly makes a splash! A figure dressed in a fabulous swimwear ensemble jumps into the pool and onto a globe, causing a huge splash of water to burst forth towards the viewer. The fun, colorful, and fancifully detailed swimming outfit complete with vintage style bathing suit, matching swim cap, and flippers points to the artist's background in fashion.
Signed and dated "Grant 2005" lower right.

Marc Foster Grant (American, b. 1947) is an artist from San Diego, CA who began showing his art at 13 years old. This led to becoming San Diego Museum’s Art Guild’s youngest member. He attended San Francisco State University in 1965 to study printmaking under John Ihle and Dennis Beal. Throughout college, Marc taught silk screening classes in his Potero Hill painting studio and worked at Museum West—an arm of New York Museum of Contemporary Crafts. Later he became the Display Director at Design Research International. He later attended the Brighton School of Art and Design in England for graduate work in printmaking.
In 1973 Marc joined his wife Jeanne’s fledging dress business. The couple moved the enterprise from England, back to San Francisco where they opened their first shop, “Jeanne-Marc”, in North Beach. Under the same label they sold their small sportswear collection to high-end specialty stores including I. Magnin, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman as well as to stores in Europe and Japan. In 1991 both Marc and Jeanne were elected to the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America)
