The female is always positioned on the left and has a small cub clutching its right front paw. This symbolizes "yin" - nature's cycle of life and protects those living within the home. The male is always positioned to the right and holds a decorative ball beneath his left paw. Which symbolizes "yang" - the world - and protection of the physical structure itself.

This large duo dates from the late 20th century. Each is made of porcelain and feature a rare pale yellow overall glaze. Embellished with handprinted decoration in rose, blue, ochre, green, and black tones. Both are unmarked. Hence they may be of either Chinese or Japanese origin.

Female measures: 13.5" high x 9.5" wide x 9" deep
Male Measures: 14.5" high x 9.5" wide x 9" deep

Both are in excellent vintage condition. Neither display any chips, cracks, crazing, glaze loss, or issues of note. See photos for details. See less
