A fine quality and beautiful cerused oak armoire cabinet by Maple and Co of London. Of excellent construction in solid oak with attractive grain and intriguing carved details and hardware. Comes with a key that allows the cabinet to be locked.
Newly restored in a cerused finish with antiqued grain in an emerald green tone, this wardrobe cabinet is ready for immediate use. This versatile piece of antique furniture offers good storage capacity and would sit well within a number of different room scenarios.
Maple & Co was founded by John Maple who was a shopkeeper from Horley, Surrey, who then later opened a furniture shop in Tottenham Court Road. But it was his son, John Blundell Maple, who made the brand a success. By the 1880s they were one of the largest furniture stores in the world, exporting their fine pieces to every continent.
Maple & Co manufactured their luxury furniture entirely in-house in a large modern complex earning prestigious contracts to furnish fine houses, hotels, embassies and palaces in Europe, just some examples are Tsar Nicholas’s Winter Palace and the Hofburg Imperial Palace in Vienna.
Maple & Co produced a large catalogue of fine antique furniture, covering all styles of interior design from Aesthetic style carved oak dressers to Chippendale Revival antique dining chairs and Art Nouveau tulip carved antique dining tables. The high quality of craftsmanship of Maples’ antique cabinets, dining suites and bedroom furniture made Maple & Co highly popular with Britain’s social elite.
This cabinet would work great as an armoire, wardrobe, cupboard, sideboard, credenza, vitrine, etagere, or a china cabinet and would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Post-Modern room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition.
