A petite French Empire mahogany secretary or lady’s correspondence desk. This secretary has an inset black fossil marble top surrounded by a pierced brass gallery. Below is a mirrored fold front door that opens with a working lock and becomes the leather top writing surface. When the desk is open the total depth is 24”. The interior is fitted with one 4 ½” deep fixed shelf and two pairs of drawers with gilt brass knobs. Below the desktop is one drawer with a brass wreath escutcheon plate and working lock. Two keys are included. The secretary is raised on tapered legs with brass sabots. Cleaned and polished, this antique is ready for your immediate use.
