Cryptic symbols, geometric glyphs and carefully planned motifs dot this chic mid-century Moroccan rug illustrating the important design concept of infinite rapport.
A Beautiful Vintage Beni Ourain Moroccan Rug, Country of Origin: Morocco, Circa Date: Mid 20th Century – Executed in a language of symbols and unspoken signs, this exceptional mid-century modern vintage Moroccan rug captures a phenomenal array of repeated symbols and geometric glyph. These archaic symbols were full of meaning to the cultural groups who created these textural works of art. Seemingly abstract, this sophisticated vintage Moroccan rug, from the mid 20th century, is based on a world of hidden meanings and advanced design principles that are very different from the styles cultivated in the West. The plush ivory field features rows of staggered protection symbols and ancient duality motifs that appear throughout Moroccan rugs and ancient artifacts. This exceptional mid-century rug illustrates the concept of infinite rapport, which can be seen in the border-less ends where the patterned rows could extend to infinity.
Using basic patterns and colors, this vintage rug creates a spectacular abstract pattern that has a wonderful modernity and an alluring simplicity. The natural flowing lines of this elegant Moroccan tribal mid century modern area rug is an essential for any retro or contemporary designs. The vintage rug from Morocco was produced by the Berber tribes of Morocco. The organic designs the iconic Moroccan Beni Ourain area rugs often found their way into the works of architects and designers such as like Frank Lloyd Wright, Marcel Breuer and Ray Eames. They were the perfect complement to designs that featured open spaces and harsh, angular lines.
The all over design of this vintage Moroccan rug is carried out using charcoal brown colored elements on an ivory background. The soft and simply neutral rug colors are natural and consist of those typically found on the wool of the locally grown sheep. This adds an element of nature to an ultra modern space. Moroccan Berber rugs are known for their simple designs, plush vintage shag rug pile and durability. This Moroccan carpet is a beautiful example of the work produced by them.
Is not surprising that these Moroccan rugs, once the popular choices for mid century interior designers, have enjoyed a resurgence in popularity for more modern interior designs. Vintage Beni Ourain rugs such as this are the perfect complement to modern Scandinavian, minimalist, and angular modern architecture. These simplistically designed vintage rugs add an organic feel and an element of interest to the room’s interior decor.
The design of this Moroccan shag rug mimics a pattern that one would expect to find on a natural fur, giving it a further connection to the natural world. The simplicity of the vintage rug design makes it as versatile to place as it is captivating to behold. One thing is for certain, it would make a beautiful addition to any space that needs a beautifully designed primitive, tribal element.
