A spill vase was kept on the … more Beautiful pair of early 19th century Old Paris (Vieux Paris) porcelain spill vases. A spill vase was kept on the mantelpiece and was filled with spills (thin wooden sticks) used to transfer fire from the fireplace to candles and lamps. Each vase has a charming pair of birds and a bird's nest with three eggs. There are hand painted gold designs on the front and gold painting outlining different parts of the design. Birds are gold. The vases are not marked which is typical of Old Paris. They measure 7" tall x 6 1/4" wide at top, 3 1/2" across and 3 3/4" wide at base. The condition is good for these antique vases with no cracks crazing, or chips. The main condition issue is that the gold is worn in spots. Especially on the front of one of the vases. But the wear only adds to the charm! less
