Absolutely stunning 6 piece sterling silver tea set b John Wilmin Figg, circa 1839. Comes with copy of Zapffe Silversmiths appraisal from 2023, valuing set at $28,500. Octagonal bodies with engrave Lion insignia on each. Very Art Deco in style, though dated 1839.
The appraisal reads as follows:
This four piece sterling tea set was made by John Wilmin Figg out of London and is year marked for 1839. Each piece has an octagon shape and body style and is constructed of multiple pieces of silver soldered together to form a teapot, coffee pot, sugar bowl, and cream pitcher. The coffee pot and teapot have their own stands that they sit on. The teapot sits on a small stand with a wooden insert in the base. The wooden insert is held in place with a rolled edge of the sterling. The base for the teapot sits on four feet in the shape of columns and has a burner to keep the coffee warm. The bodies of each piece have a hand chased ribbon design on each panel of the upper body. Coffee pot and teapot have ivory tone insulators on the handles along with flush hinges for the lids. Each piece is marked with the English standard silver mark of a Lion facing left, a year letter mark for 1839 with was a "D", the makers mark for John Wilmin Figg of an "I F" inside of tow conjoined circles, the city mark for London and the duty mark for London and the duty mark of a "Sovereign Head" facing left.
Includes the following pieces:
Coffee Pot - 8 1/4" tall x 6 1/4" wide from tip of spout to handle, weighs 22.45 troy ounces with insulators
Coffee Pot stand with Burner with 4 feet- 5 1/4" x 1 3/4" tall, weighs 9.5 troy ounces with burner
Teapot - 5" tall x 11 1/4" from handle to tip of spout, weighs 27.2 troy ounces with insulators.
Teapot stand - 5 3/4" x 1" tall, weighs 10.1 troy ounces with wooden insert.
Sugar Bowl -5 1/2" x 3 1/8" tall x 7" handle to handle, gold washed interior, weighs 11.65 troy ounces.
Cream Pitcher - 4 7/8" tall x 4" from handle to tip of spout, weighs 7.8 troy ounces.
Excellent condition, no dents or dings. A slight ivory bit of the insulator on the coffee pot is missing.
