An amazing painting of Buddha on an old door panel. The secrets of enlightenment of Buddhist iconography are all there--the Ushnisha crown of attaining enlightenment, the Urna third eye seeing beyond the physical and material world, the meditative half-closed eyes deep in serene meditation, the long ear lobes renouncing wealth. The hand above is the Abhaya Mudra which offers protection, peace and dispels all fear. And the lotus buds all around symbolize the future and the Buddhas that have not yet been born.
This piece is signed on the back by Mohan Patil. It has iron rings on the back for hanging on the wall, and you will notice the hand-wrought iron nails on one side where it may have once been mounted. From the 1960's.
