An expressive and wonderfully coloured mid-century still life composition, executed in oil onto canvas.
Simple yet effective in its composition, the painting revolves around a group of luscious apples set against an expressive and abstract backdrop executed with gestural sweeping brushstrokes.
The artist has thoughtfully used an uplifting colour palette, drawing our attention to the form of the apples, as their striking richer shades of red and green with hints of blue contrasts against the lighter backdrop comprising a spectrum of yellow, and white and orange.
Through the masterful use of the contrasting shades, as well as seemingly unrestrained yet precise brushstrokes, the three-dimensional qualities of the fruits are enhanced and the overall composition is full of character.
