A playful and brilliantly executed mid-century composition of a neighbourhood, painted in oil onto canvas and dated 1959.

Containing elements of geometric abstraction, the scene is defined by tall houses that have been skilfully reduced to geometric blocks in contrasting colours, with a splash of fun patterned dots.

Rich earthy tones dominate the palette – deep turquoise and emerald greens are punctuated by lighter greens, with hints of black, brown, and white and yellow demonstrating depth to the painting. The artist’s use of these colours creates a fun and vibrant atmosphere.
