This Really is an Exceptionally Beautiful Antique American Stoneware Storage Jug. Circa Approx 1870s. It has a Large Elaborate Deep Blue - Wonderful & Artfully Decorated Stylized Flower Design on the Front. The Exterior is done in a Classic American Salt Glaze. It is Embossed with a Number #3 Denoting its Large 3 Gallon Liquid Storage Capacity. It is Embossed with the Well Documented Makers Name BALLARD & BROTHERS - BURLINGTON VERMONT. These types of Jugs were typically used to Store and Preserve Liquids such as Water - Cider - Hard Ciders - Spirits - Liquors Etc. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. It is in Very Nice All Original Condition - Displays Beautifully. It has a Chip on the Back Side at the Base Perimeter - See last Photograph in this Listing. No Cracks.
