This elegant, antique mantel mirror was crafted in France, circa 1870. Rectangular in shape and over 4.5 feet wide, the large mirror is decorated at the pediment with a large cartouche shell in the center flanked with carved floral and leaf motifs on both sides. The gilt frame, dressed with the original mercury glass and parquet wood backing, is embellished with engraved geometric decor and decorative beading around the frame. The Louis XVI style mirror is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich gold leaf finish. The tall mirror would make an impressive addition over a large mantel in a living room, or in a den over a large buffet or console. This piece, with its large reflective surface and ornate frame, would add a touch of classic French elegance to any space.
