Bound in 19th … more Stunning complete set, containing all of Browning’s works from Pauline (1833) to Asolando (1889) in two volumes. Bound in 19th century brown half calf leather with raised bands, green marbled cover, embossed gilt lettering and dated spine. The inside boasts marbled end papers and an engraving of the poet complete with signature. Published just 13 years after Browning’s death in 1902 by Smith, Elder & Co. in London.

Renowned as one of the great Victorian poets, Robert Browning was an esteemed English poet and playwright. Browning’s earliest works garnered him some negative attention for their morbid tone. Thus for a time he set poetry aside to work on plays, finding apt space for experimentation and creative development. When he returned to verse, Browning achieved popular success, and became a familiar name with the reading public. The poet achieved true literary stardom with the publication of his verse novel The Ring and the Book.

His mastery of irony, dark humor and social commentary set Browning apart from his Victorian contemporaries. He is most known for his dramatic monologues and use of irony. less
