3 giant African masks in solid wenge carved 1960. 1 man in front, 1 woman in profile and 1 man with beard in front.
These 3 masks are representative of the Muta Mayola movement created by Grégoire Massengo, an African sculptor who had a considerable influence from the 1950s until his death in 1978. He is, with his cousin Benoit Konongo, the best known representatives of the school of Muta Mayola, an artistic movement which was born around 1930 on the outskirts of Brazzaville.
