A lovely 1950's Polychrome decorated bisque bust bust modeled after Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (French, 1824-1887) "Bust of Young Maid" The striking life-sized bust depicts a young woman in pastel tones with predominant tones that include a creamy eggshell base, pale peach, and powdered green wearing neoclassical robes and a high updo accented with multi-toned flowers. It sits atop a separate cast polychrome hand painted pedestal designed and painted to match the bust. The pedestal features a fleurish garland and striking botanical boughs and floral clusters that match with the bust. Although it is unclear if this was also created after the French sculptor it certainly seems to follow the same notes as the bust. No mark on either item is discoverable to indicate the manufacturer, country of origin or year of creation. Based on similar information as found online we estimate that it was crafted in the 1950s and likely from the United States.
