- This rare set of 4 "Spanish Ware " porcelain fine raised gold outlined birds with floral background were made by … more This rare set of 4 "Spanish Ware " porcelain fine raised gold outlined birds with floral background were made by Doulton Burslem between 1882-1901. (Plates marked with ENGLAND underneath are after 1902.) Doulton Burslem later became Royal Doulton. Each plate is hand painted by Joseph Hancock, a highly regarded artist at the time known for his fish, game birds and landscapes. It is unusual to find a signature on the front of a plate, as seen in photos. These plates have fluted and gilt painted pie crust edges and were made for the prestigious Phillips of London on Oxford street, which carried Staffordshire pottery. In exceptional condition, these plates have been in my family for over 45 years and I brought them to the USA when my husband and I moved here in 1982. less
