About: The first premise of From Boyhood to Manhood is that the life of Benjamin Franklin is one of the noblest examples of success for both boys AND GIRLS to study. A progressive statement in 1889. The book describes how through industry, and perseverance, Franklin overcame poverty and substantial hardships that most would perceive as insurmountable, and he did it with great tact and dignity. His life is one of the brightest in American history to inspire young hearts with lofty aims. The second premise is that Franklin is the true father of the American Union. He laid the foundation at Albany, articulated it in New York, suggested the Congress of 1774 and inspired the confidence for it to take effect. Franklin envisioned the bond of the Union that unified the states. He was also the greatest of diplomats; abroad he had unquestionable respect and influence. “He never spoke a word too soon; he spoke a word too much; he never failed to speak the right word at the right season.” From Boyhood to Manhood could be categorized as a YA book, but is an equally informative book for the adult reader.
