This mixed media drawing by American artist Robert C. Ray (1926-2020). This yellow ochre colored portrait is characterized by soft lines and in black and white of a woman with long hair and a hat. Signed to the bottom edge and is displayed in a cream mat with a gold wooden frame.
Born in Elwood, Indiana, Ray attended the John Herron Art School in Indianapolis. After spending time abroad in Spain and Italy in 1953, he studied under Hans Hoffman in Provincetown, Massachusetts at Hoffman's School of Fine Art. Ray was also a writer and poet with several published books. In addition to being an artist, Ray also ran an interior decorating business in Indianapolis.
