Inagaki Toshijiro (aka Nenjiro) (Japan, 1902-1963) framed woodblock of a Ojoin Temple in Forest Kyoto, published by Mikumo. Shows artist seal at lower left. Excellent condition. Simple frame measures 7" x 9", print measures 4" x 5 3/4".
Inagaki Toshijiro was a Japanese katazome artist. His given name is also sometimes read as "Nenjiro". Toshijiro Inagaki was a renowned katazome (stencil dying) textile artist active during the first half of the 20th century. He graduated from the Kyoto City School of Fine Arts and Crafts in 1922 and began working as a stencil designer for kimono fabric. In 1962, designated as a Living National Treasure for his accomplished career as a katazome (stencil dying) artist. In the 1950s Inagaki explored the woodblock print medium, painting different inks onto a single block. The prints were published by the Kyoto-based Mikumo Mokuhansha. Inagaki became a professor at Kyoto Municipal Fine Arts College in 1958, where he held several different positions over the years.
